{"id":29172,"date":"2023-04-06T21:05:15","date_gmt":"2023-04-07T01:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gayleague.com\/?p=29172"},"modified":"2023-04-06T21:05:21","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T01:05:21","slug":"glr-awards-writers-artists-to-three-student-recipients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gayleague.com\/glr-awards-writers-artists-to-three-student-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"G&#038;LR Awards Writers &#038; Artists To Three Student Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Boston, MA \u2014&nbsp;<strong><em>The Gay &amp; Lesbian Review \/ Worldwide (The G&amp;LR)<\/em><\/strong>, with the generous support of the Leonard-Litz Foundation, announced today the recipients of its first-ever&nbsp;<strong>Writers and Artists Grant<\/strong>.&nbsp;<em>The G&amp;LR<\/em>&nbsp;Grant of $15,000, divided among three candidates, was created to cultivate a new and diverse pool of writers for&nbsp;<em>The G&amp;LR,<\/em>&nbsp;to bring their perspectives, ideas, and voices to the magazine, and to encourage emerging and unpublished&nbsp;LGBTQ+ writers, thinkers, scholars, and artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate students&nbsp;<strong>Lucas Belury,&nbsp;<\/strong>PhD student in Geography at the University of Arizona;&nbsp;<strong>Gervais Marsh,<\/strong>&nbsp;PhD candidate in Performance Studies at Northwestern University; and<strong>&nbsp;Cait N. Parker<\/strong>, PhD candidate in American Studies with a concentration in Women\u2019s, Gender, &amp; Sexuality Studies at Purdue University, were notified that they each received a grant to&nbsp;complete or advance LGBT-related writing and other creative projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Lucas Belury\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;project, titled \u201cQueer Survival in 20th Century South Texas,\u201d will&nbsp;chronicle&nbsp;the queer history of San Antonio, TX in the 1970s and early 1980s, and reveal how LGBTQ+ life was shaped by a politics of respectability that reconstituted explicitly queer spaces, palatable to heteronormative society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Gervais Marsh\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;project, titled \u201cIntimate Notes: Patric McCoy&#8217;s Archive of Black Gay Life in Chicago,\u201d will focus on artist Patric McCoy\u2019s photographic archive as a meditation on histories of Black queer life and intimacy in Chicago from the 1970s to 1980s, while also grappling with the impact of HIV\/AIDS on Black communities and artistic expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp; &nbsp;<strong>Cait N.
